Kick-starting 2015 with a full-house, the HCA Executive welcomed members and inspirational speakers to the Annual Members’ Meeting at RIBA in January.

Outgoing CEO Julia Cook reviewed the 2014 activities, reporting record-breaking membership and attendance at training and events throughout the year. Feedback from participants is very important to the HCA and has been extremely positive (see examples below), with constant evaluation essential to ensure that our calendar is relevant and meets the current needs of today’s healthcare communicators.Members were inspired by presentations from Gayle Tait, Google’s UK Industry Director for Health, and Tim Davis, CEO, Exco InTouch, who reminded us of the speed of technological innovation but more importantly demonstrated how the digital revolution can be embraced by healthcare to improve service, communication and ultimately patient outcomes. Slides from their presentations are available to view in the Members’ Area, just login to review.Following the speaker presentations, Nick Gardner (White Boat TV) facilitated a heated debate on the issues arising, with additional contributions from Paul Dixey (Bluelight Partners) and Nick Broughton (Havas Lynx Medical) with members engaging in a wide discussion around the topics raised.Incoming CEO Anneliese Cameron, took the opportunity to outline her vision for the next decade of the HCA, maximising our social channels for improving communications and reaching out to our marketing and medical colleagues so they may benefit from up-to-date knowledge and expertise too, while ensuring that the HCA continues to deliver value to members, through training and events that meet their needs and demonstrate good practice in all areas of healthcare communication. As the meeting came to a close members enjoyed the opportunity to network with friends and colleagues and we took the opportunity to capture some soundbites.  If you would like to get involved with any of the HCA workstreams, please email the HCA Secretariat.Members - please login to view the slides from this event.

Delegate Feedback

I thought the speakers were excellent.
Gayle Tait's presentation was fantastic - really thought provoking.
The new meeting format, with workstream updates replaced by discussion topics/presentations and a panel discussion, was definitely a good move.
The event provided a great opportunity to network.

HCA Public Affairs Dragon's Den 2014
"The event was not only great fun and a chance to meet practitioners from different disciplines in healthcare comms, it was also a chance to come up with ideas to help a real campaign for a really important but neglected cause, which made us all feel we had made a small difference that night."Strategic Planning in Medical Education 2014
"I was really impressed with this course, it is one of the most relevant courses I have ever taken and I am looking forward to applying the learnings in practice. Well done guys!"
