In this year’s survey, consultancies identified the recruitment, retention and optimum deployment of talented staff as their most significant internal issue. People are evidently the most valuable asset in an industry that prides itself on offering a service that is anything but a ‘commodity’, yet the other key challenge that participants identified was the relentless downward pricing pressure exerted by pharma procurement-led selection procedures, which could ultimately start to have a negative impact on service provision. What steps can consultancies take to find and keep the best people? And how can relationships between consultancies and the various players in client teams be optimised such that the selection process really does lead to mutually beneficial outcomes for both parties?Participating member agencies have already seen a full report on the findings as well as each receiving an individual report with their own company’s data benchmarked against key charts.  We would like to thank all those who took part.
